Village Fete

Once again a cold and wet day, but it certainly didn't dampen the spirits of those at the Tarvin Village Fete (see what I did there)! Luckily, I spent the day under a borrowed gazebo serving candyfloss to those attending the fete, many of the older customers commented on how it was their favourite childhood treat. It was worth being covered head to toe in sugar (even if getting it out of m eyelashes was slightly painful) as we made £120!

Borneo Bingo

It may be sad, but I love a good game of bingo, it's exciting, so organising our Borneo Bingo was right up my street. We were kindly donated prizes by local businesses, friends and family. We had a tuck shop, hot dogs and a bar topped with a raffle half way through. The bingo was run by me friend (who is also going to Borneo) and I. We made £158.35 each.

Braveing the English Weather

Once again, friends and family were hard at work baking cakes for the Kelsall Folk festival. We were kindly donated a stall and tables by the event organisers. It was a very cold and wet day but we still made £63.15.

BIG Sponsors

One of the main ways I have been raising money for my Borneo expedition is through sponsors from large companies and businesses. I have been charging £200 for a logo space on my t-shirt and in return I have promised photos of me in the t-shirt at fundraising events and when I'm in Borneo. Companies see this as a great way to promote themselves not only as a business, but  as people who support charities as well.

I wrote letters to as many different companies as I could explaining what I was doing. When doing this you do need to be prepared for rejection. I was very lucky in the sense that a good number of the companies I wrote to responded by agreeing or if not said their staff would like to sponsor me in my walk.

I found I got the best response from those actually within my village and close surrounding area. Four within my actual village and one in the village of my high school. A housing company that sponsored me even organised a photographer from the local newspaper to come out and take pictures for an article.

Basically, you need to try and tell as many people as possible about what you are doing. Some people who have read about what I am doing in the newspaper or on our villages online forum made smaller donations, everything counts.

20 Miles Closer

On the 12th April 2014 I completed a 20 mile sponsored hike around my local area. For some, this would have been a dreaded experience but luckily, hiking is something I really enjoy to do so through all of the pain I still managed to keep smiling and having fun!

Half way through our route we made a stop at the Cheshire Ice Cream farm who kindly provided us with some free ice cream, yummy!

 Throughout the day we saw some amazing views!

  With thanks to friends, family, work colleagues and local businesses I managed to raise a whopping £657.

After a hard day walking, my family treated me to a tasty curry!
